Rabindranath Tagore (1886-1941) was one of the greatest lyric poet of the world; writer of short stories, novels, dramas, won the Nobel Prize, returned his 'Knighthood' after Jallianwala Bagh massacre; was prominent in anti-partition of Bengal agitation. Tagore was a thorough artist, a poet, a painter as well as a musician. His early poetical works include Sandhya Sangeet, Prabhat Sangeet and Kari-o-Kamal. It was his Geetanjali that won him worldwide recognition and the Nobel Prize in 1913. Among his prose works is the book Raja-Praja, an analysis of the British rule.
